Elections Commission (EC) has decided on placing ballot boxes in three countries and disclosed that over 11,000 individuals had submitted reregistration requests to relocate their polling stations during the extended window.

The Commission revealed today that the reregistration period that was reopened on March 10 had concluded at 15:00 hrs yesterday and that the Commission had received 11,169 application forms requesting reregistration at different voting stations amidst this period. EC had rejected 1,141 of these application forms which places the total number of reregistration at 10,028.

In order to cast ballots at the six vote boxes announced to be placed overseas, a number of 1,338 individuals had submitted reregistration forms which had led to the selection of the designated countries. While placement of ballot boxes abroad requires 150 registrations in each location, ballot boxes have now been arranged to be stationed in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, Colombo, Sri Lanka and Trivandrum, India with over 100 voters registering to vote in each of these stations.

Malaysia had observed the most voter registries with 702 individuals registering at polling stations in the country.

Vote boxes were will be placed in areas performing tourism and industrial works with a minimum of 30 reregistered voters required for each location. The number of resorts determined to have voting stations now stands at 34 with this recent reregistration which offers 7 resorts more than the initial arrangement.

While nearly 600 ballot boxes are arranged to be placed across the country, a maximum of 600 ballots will be cast at each polling station.

According to a former announcement, the parliamentary elections will take place today. However, with the amendment to the General Elections Act to refrain from conducting elections during the month of Ramadan, the date of the parliamentary elections was postponed as well. The Election's Commission has now scheduled the date of the parliamentary elections to April 21.
