Elections Commission (EC) has reported that 7,350 forms have been submitted so far during the window for re-registration for the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled on March 17.

Vice President and Spokesperson of the EC, Ismail Habeeb, said in a post on X that 7,350 people had applied for re-registration, and from these applications, 6,465 have been re-registered while 885 applications were rejected.

"Before applying for re-registration, please double-check the current place of registration," he said.

EC began accepting re-registration applications for the parliamentary election on February 1, with the application window closing at 16:00 hrs today.

The commission had earlier said that if an individual does not apply for re-registration within this period, they will have to cast their ballot at the place where they were registered during the second round of the last presidential election.

During the last parliamentary elections held in 2019, over 21,000 individuals had applied for re-registration.

A total of 284,337 people are eligible to vote during this year’s parliamentary elections.

EC has also opened nomination submissions for candidates to contest the 93 constituencies until February 14.

The current 19th parliament will conclude its term on May 28.
