President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that efforts will commence this year to improve waste management centres in islands based on population levels.
Speaking in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Rathafandhoo on his ongoing trip to Gaafu Alif and Gaafu Dhaalu atolls, the President said that waste management in islands is a pressing issue which the government will work to address within the year.
He said that solutions for waste management centres will be brought to the capacity needed relative to the population of each island.
He further said that ice plants will be established through assistance from the Saudi Fund for Development, on which the Finance Ministry will be meeting the fund next week.
He said that funding for this has been confirmed, with the present delays being owed to administrative issues, assuring the residents that there is no cause for concern.
The President further stated that water and sewerage services will be established, solutions will be found for space constraints at the school, the Health Centre will be further developed and an indoor gym and youth centre will be established in Rathafandhoo.
