International Aid Campaign (IAC) said on Thursday that they had received over MVR 9 million in relief funds from Maldives to aid those affected from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that had struck south Turkey and northern Syria in February.
A number of organisations and associations have been collecting money to aid in this cause. Fund collection boxes had been kept in all mosques across Maldives in addition to fund collection through other methods.
Director of Media and Public Relations of IAC Azhad Ahmed told Mihaaru News that they had received over MVR 9 million from Maldivians so far.
He said that fundraising is still ongoing and money can be donated either through the donation boxes or through deposits into their bank accounts.
Mobile houses have been sent to Turkey from Qatar so far to aid those affected by catastrophe.
Azhad said IAC is now working to donate mobile homes to Turkey. Their goal is to send 30 mobile homes; each equipped with two rooms and one toilet.
Additionally, IAC is also working to send two tonnes of rice to Turkey and Syria.
Over 45,000 deaths were recorded from the earthquake that struck the Turkish-Syrian border while nearly 100,000 people have been injured.
