InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort has announced its 2026 Manta Retreat, taking place from 24–27 March, coinciding with the resort’s peak manta season when juvenile manta rays can be observed in the lagoon just off the shore.

The retreat is hosted in partnership with the Manta Trust, one of the world’s leading manta ray research organizations, offering guests a chance to experience marine conservation firsthand.

Activities include guided reef snorkeling, manta excursions led by the Manta Trust, coral restoration workshops, and educational sessions on manta ray behavior. Guests can also adopt and name a manta ray.

Since 2019, the resort has collaborated with the Manta Trust to provide unique access to juvenile manta ray aggregation sites and cleaning stations, allowing participants to observe these animals in their natural habitat. Meral Hafeez, base leader for the Manta Trust, will guide guests through the research process, highlighting conservation efforts and the ecological importance of the lagoon, which was designated an Important Shark and Ray Area (ISRA) in 2023.

The retreat package includes one manta research trip, guided house reef snorkeling, several educational workshops, and accommodation in a luxury villa or residence on a half-board basis. Post-retreat, guests can enjoy the resort’s overwater villas, AVI Spa treatments, and a selection of dining options.

The Manta Trust uses coordinated global research, education, and collaboration to support the conservation of manta rays and their habitats. The retreat offers participants an opportunity to witness this work up close while engaging with one of the Maldives’ most ecologically significant marine sites.
