Average length of tourists' stay in Maldives has declined by 12 percent.
As per central bank Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) records, tourists have stayed in Maldives for an average of 6.8 days between January and May this year. Last year, average stay was 7.7 days.
Records over the past five years indicate that average stay of tourists have been gradually decreasing. Statistics from 2021 show the average stay to be 8.8 days. This is believed to have been due to the need for quarantine under Covid-19 preventive measures.
Bednights have also gone down 1 percent compared to last year. As of now, tourists have spent 5.9 million bednights in Maldives this year.
There are currently 62,000 beds across tourist accommodation in Maldives. To date, 1.1 million tourist arrivals have been recorded this year, with China being the leading source market. The second highest number of tourist arrivals are from Russia, followed by UK.
