Google has featured Shaviyani atoll’s Eriyadhoo in its special Earth Day Google Doodle, showcasing the island’s breathtaking natural beauty on a global platform.

The Earth Day doodle, which appeared on Google’s homepage yesterday, highlighted six extraordinary natural locations around the world, with each letter of the word "Google" represented by a unique landscape.

An aerial view of Eriyadhoo was chosen to represent the first letter “G”.

Eriyadhoo, leased to a private party by the government for many years, showcases a vivid blue-green lagoon, the area notably used for sea cucumber harvesting.

“The low-lying tropical paradise of Maldives. This beautiful island nation comprises twenty ring-shaped coral reef formations called atolls. These atolls enclose vibrant lagoons, and the very word 'atoll' originates from the local Dhivehi language," Google said.

Other locations featured in the doodle include:

- First “O”: The high-altitude alpine landscape of the Hautes-Alpes in the French Alps, home to alpine ecosystems and wildlife like marmots, golden eagles, and chamois.

- Second “O”: The Côte-Nord region of Quebec, Canada, a subarctic coastal frontier.

- Second “G”: Mendoza Province of western Argentina, sustained by glacial rivers flowing from the Andes across its arid terrain.

- “L”: Southeastern Utah, USA, a desert landscape featuring deep canyons, mesas, and the winding Colorado River.

- “E”: Inland areas of western New South Wales, Australia, a classic dryland environment dotted with drought-resistant plants like spinifex and eucalyptus.
