Elections Commission has announced tonight that the Parliamentary Elections have been rescheduled to be held on April 21.
The Commission made this announcement following President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's ratification of the bill on amendments to the General Elections Act which disallows the holding of elections within the month of Ramadan.
With this amendment coming into law, the parliamentary election previously scheduled for March 17 had to be postponed accordingly.
As per the newly ratified law, elections can be held ten days after the end of Ramadan. April 21 is the first available date for elections once this stipulation is abided by.
