Over 4,000 expatriates have been deported from the country over various violations of laws and regulations since President Dr Mohamed Muizzu came onto power, revealed Maldives Immigration.

According to statistics published by Immigration, a total of 4,054 foreigners were deported between 17th November last year and 17th September this year.

This includes the 633 expats deported this month.

The figures also showed that the most number of deportations took place in June, with a total of 690 foreigners sent back that month.

These are the efforts of the Immigration task force put together by the Home Ministry to tackle the issue of undocumented migrants and those who are in violation of other immigration related regulations.

Among those deported include those who were living in the country illegally without valid visas and those who had committed various crimes including theft, drugs and prostitution.

Maldives Immigration, over the past months, has been raiding and searching residences and work places of foreign workers to tackle the issue of foreign workers violating immigration laws.
