Maldives Immigration carried out an operation at the local market area yesterday, in which 23 expatriates found to be in violation of Immigration regulations were detained.
Immigration said that the operation was carried out from early yesterday morning until the afternoon, with boats docked and traveling from the area were also checked.
A total of 248 expatriates were questioned, and their documents checked. 23 were found to be in violation of laws and taken into detention, one of which was a woman.
Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan said last month that approximately 5000 expatriates working and living illegally in the Maldives had been deported over the past year.
