Road Development Corporation (RDC) has closed down the busiest area of Ameenee Magu to lay asphalt under the ongoing road redevelopment project.

According to RDC, the road from Billabong International High up to the building that houses both the Ministry of Finance and Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has been closed for redevelopment. Additionally, the connecting roads in the zone have been closed down for the upgrade as well.

The area is considered the busiest and traffic-heaviest zone in Ameenee Magu, since several government and state-owned enterprise (SOE) buildings, schools and faculties of Maldives National University (MNU) are located in the area. Besides offices, the area has high concentration of cafes and retaurants as well.

RDC recently completed laying asphalt from State Electric Company’s (STELCO) headquarters up to Odegalla Cafe, and has since opened the area for the public.

The Maldives government has expended MVR 84 million on the redevelopment of Ameenee Magu, which according to the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (MNPHI) will be completed by September. Physical works of the project commenced in October 2022.
