Festivities under the name of 'Maldives Culture and Food Festival' began at 20:00 hrs at the Central Park in Hulhumale'.
Even with adverse weather conditions, large crowds gathered to participate in the festivities.
The event featured traditional Maldivian arts such as 'boduberu' and other cultural dances.
Stalls in the area offer a vast variety of local cuisine. The Food Festival will continue on tomorrow from 16:00 hrs to 22:00 hrs.
The event also featured a mesmerizing drone show. This show represented drones painting images related to culture, tourism and fisheries in the Maldives.
Visitors at the event also participated in lucky draws, taking home exciting prizes.
At 23:59, the fireworks show began to officially welcome in the new year.
