President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has yesterday assigned Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Dr Maryam Mariya to temporarily oversee the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.

Dr Aishath Rameela resigned from her post as Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare yesterday citing medical reasons.
Last year on November 29, Rameela announced on social media that she is under treatment for cancer. She was on leave, receiving treatment in India, and resumed duties last February.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu extended gratitude to Rameela for her services even as she faces health issues.
The President also noted that having a trustworthy and capable person such as Rameela in the Cabinet brought him great joy, and expressed confidence that her services will continue to benefit the country.
Rameela started her career as a nurse in 1990. She served as Minister of State for Health twice. In 2010, she earned a PhD in Social Sciences from Malaysia.
