Ten officials of the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, including Senior Political Directors and Deputy Ministers, have been suspended.
Mihaaru News reports that these officials were suspended yesterday afternoon.
The reasons behind the suspension are so far unclear.
This has come at a time when Police have commenced investigations into land plots being allocated to persons not on the recipients list. HDC and Housing Ministry had exchanged letters regarding this matter.
Due to this, Police have now seized documents from Housing Ministry as well related to the matter.
The Housing Ministry, as well as the Construction Ministry and Environment Ministry, burned down in a fire last Thursday morning. It took authorities four hours to put out the fire, by which time the places had been burnt beyond use.
Some on social media allege that the fire had been deliberately orchestrated as there is a criminal investigation now commenced into land plots and flats having been wrongly awarded.
There is an investigation also ongoing into how the fire started, with forensic teams from the Police still active at the scene. Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau has said that Police are also gathering CCTV footage and examining them.
