Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to develop Thaa atoll Vilufushi Airport.
At the campaign rally held in Vilufushi, Dr. Muizzu said that the most crucial developmental project for the island both from an economical and logistical point of view was an airport, which the current government failed to realize.
“We are capable of producing results. You will see us working diligently to develop an airport according to our promise,” Dr. Muizzu said.
Dr. Muizzu said that he was backed by the same capable team behind former president Abdulla Yameen and pledged developmental projects for the island if elected for presidency.
In addition to an airport, Dr. Muizzu pledged to develop a modern hospital on the island.
The local residents of the island had created mock designs of an airport and a hospital, which they placed near the harbor ahead of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's campaign visit to the island.
Previously, the current government signed with a contractor to develop the airport in Vilufushi on a cross-subsidy basis.
