While kiosks have already started selling short eats, others are yet to commence operations.
A draw has been held for the allocation of kiosks built in the area previously occupied by huts in Hulhumale' Phase Two.
A total of 183 applicants applied for the 20 kiosks. The draw, initially scheduled for late September, was postponed due to concerns raised by the applicants.
An official from Housing Development Corporation (HDC) speaking to Mihaaru News said that the draw took place a few days ago.
Some kiosks have already started selling short eats, while others are yet to commence operations, he said.
The kiosks, leased for a one year term, carry a monthly rent of MVR 3,500, an acquisition fee of MVR 5,000, and a lease deposit of MVR 10,500.
Eligibility for the kiosks was limited to owners or residents of Hiyaa flats. Some applications were rejected due to non-payment of dues to HDC.
HDC stated that all kiosk operations must be carried out by the tenants themselves.
- Renting the kiosk to another person
- Using flammable substances such as oil, grease, or gas
- Cooking, baking, or frying any kind of food within the kiosk
- Storing objects or disposing of garbage outside the kiosk premises
- Setting up chairs or tables outside the kiosk
Previously, some residents of the Hiyaa flats constructed huts between the housing towers and operated businesses without permits.
When HDC removed these huts, food businesses began operating on the beach area in front of the housing towers using makeshift structures. However, these huts were also dismantled and kiosks were constructed in the area.
