Police have issued a warning to the public regarding counterfeit MVR 500 notes that are being circulated, printed on ordinary paper.

Two individuals, Aishath Shizny from Thaa atoll Thimarafushi and Mauzoo Mohamed from Hithadhoo, Addu City, have been arrested for allegedly dealing in these counterfeit notes.

According to the police, counterfeit MVR 500 notes have been circulating recently, prompting them to caution public to carefully check the security features and paper quality of Maldivian Rufiyaa notes during transactions.

The arrests were made following a complaint lodged with the police on Tuesday, which led to the discovery of 24 counterfeit notes in the possession of the suspects.

The two have since been presented before the Criminal Court, where they were remanded in custody for 30 days. Police urged anyone who encounters similar issues to report them immediately.
