President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged that all sexually explicit websites will be completely blocked by this week.

He made this statement while addressing the audience at the ceremony held on Saturday evening to commemorate Huravee Day.

While addressing the ceremony, President Muizzu said that despite being accessible in the Maldives for an extended period, sexually explicit websites were legally prohibited in the country.

He highlighted that it was his obligation to shut all doors to such social vices as the country's leader.

Speaking in this regard, President Muizzu stated that recent studies have indicated that the consumption of content from sexually explicit websites has adverse effects on a person's mental faculties and diminishes their productivity.

"A person drowns in mental unrest. This is why our sacred Islamic faith prohibited it due to the negative impact of such vices," the President said, pledging his efforts to protect the country and its people from its harmful influences.

While assuring that all sexually explicit websites would be banned in the Maldives, President Muizzu announced that the majority of the work under this effort has already been completed.

"God willing, we will close all access to pornographic and sexually explicit websites in the Maldives... in the upcoming week, all such websites would be completely blocked," President Muizzu added.

Relevant authorities have already begun blocking access to pornographic websites on the state's instructions.

This is the first time access to pornographic or sexually explicit websites are being fully blocked in the Maldives.
