Friday's rain, which began at 11am and continued on till about 9pm last night, caused heavy flooding across Male', with flood water seeping into houses and shops and causing varying levels of damage. Maafannu ward, in particular, experienced high levels of flooding.
NDMA said that they had received reports from 53 houses of flood damage causing difficulties in fulfilling basic needs. Rapid assessments were duly done on all these houses, following which 36 houses were found to be uninhabitable at the time.
Due to this, 226 residents from these 36 houses have been transferred to temporary shelter and were being provided food and water.
