Maldives Media Council has once again announced it is accepting applications for membership. The council previously opened up for applications, with the deadline having been reached on September 25.
At the time, eight individuals applied for the seven posts of membership allocated to media outlets.
Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Art said in an announcement today that the deadline for application is being extended until October 29 as the terms of ten council members are nearing an end.
The ministry said that those who have already applied will not need to resubmit applications.
Voter registration has also been extended to 14:00 hrs on October 30.
Altogether, the Media Council consists of fifteen members. However, as terms of some members still remain, a total of ten members will be elected this time. This includes seven representatives from media, and three representatives from the public.
Members of the Media Council serve a two year term.
