A Bangladeshi individual was attacked with a knife in K. Gaafaru yesterday.
Police said the attack was reported at 07:00 pm and that the victim was reportedly walking on the street when the assault took place.
The individual was stabbed in the back from behind, and received treatment for the injuries at the island's health centre. However, the patient was later transferred to Malé for further treatment.
A local who spoke to Mihaaru from the island said that the person arrested in the case was on long term medication for a psychological condition. The source also said that the attack took place a few days after medication was discontinued.
"[The alleged attacker]'s situation had improved since they were on medication. [The person] never attacked anyone previously and had fun with family, so no one would even think they would do such a thing, would they?" the source said.
The alleged perpetrator had reportedly been pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in psychology as well.
