The second grandfather who was imprisoned for sexually abusing his two year old granddaughter in GA. Kanduhulhudhoo died in prison on Friday.
In 2022, the Criminal Court ordered the toddler's great grandfather Hassan Moosa Didi , 85 and grandfather Ibrahim Didi, 67, to be imprisoned for life after being convicted of sexually abusing the child in January of 2020.
Maldives Correctional Service told media that Ibrahim Didi died during the early hours of Friday.
According to the agency, Ibrahim Didi, who was in Hulhumalé jail, fell while awake, prompting a medical team to attend to him. However, he was unresponsive despite first aid, and was transported to Hulhumalé Hospital for further treatment, the agency said.
Still unresponsive, the hospital pronounced Didi dead at 02:40 am.
"He was on medication for high blood pressure, cholesterol and tremors," the statement by Corrections said.
The agency also said the news of his death was informed to his family, Inspector of Correctional Service, Maldives Police Service, HRCM and the NIC.
Hassan Moosa Didi, the great grandfather, also died in prison in September 2023 while seeking treatment for multiple medical conditions.
He died on 9th September from a cardiac arrest. During his last days, he was unable to walk and bedridden.
