Maldivian swimmers sets records at World Aquatics Championships

Maldivian swimmers Mohamed Rihan Shiham, Mohamed Aan Hussain, and Hamna Ahmed have set new national records at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) held in Hungary.

Rihan broke his own national record in the men’s short course 200m butterfly event, clocking a time of 2:17.93. His previous record of 2:21.75 was set at the Asian Open Schools Invitational (AOSI) Age Group Swimming Championships in October 2024.

Aan set a new national record in the men’s short course 100m freestyle event, finishing in 52.29 seconds. His previous record of 53.45 seconds was achieved at the 20th National Short Track Championships in Hungary last month.

Hamna set a new national record in the women’s short course 100m breaststroke event, completing the race in 1:20.69. Her prior record of 1:22.65 was also set at the 20th National Short Track Championships.

Meral Ain Latheef is among the Maldivian athletes competing at the championships, which are taking place from December 10 to 15.
