Applications will be accepted from 08:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the reception of the President's Office.
Applications have opened for the four vacant positions on the Tax Appeal Tribunal.
According to the Tax Administration Act, the President will appoint and dismiss members of the Tax Appeal Tribunal. Following parliament recommendations, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu dismissed four members from the tribunal.
Candidates must possess experience in taxation laws, either within the Maldives or abroad, or have a background in tax accountancy. Additionally, two of the appointed members are required to have at least three years of experience in the legal profession within the Maldives or hold higher qualifications in law.
According to the announcement, candidates applying for the position must have experience in taxation, economics, finance, accounting, business, or law and be competent to participate technically in debates and decisions on tax-related policies.
Requirements for the post include:
- Candidates must not hold an elected position
- Candidates must not have been convicted of an offence related to bribery
- Candidates must not hold a key position in a state-owned or private company, or any position on the Board of Directors of such a company
-Candidates must not have been declared bankrupt
- Candidates must not be a member of any political party
- Candidates must not be a civil servant
Applications will be accepted from 08:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the reception of the President's Office. Along with the application forms, candidates must submit a criminal and debt record form and a party check form from the Elections Commission.
After review by Parliament's Judiciary Committee, Parliament recommended the dismissal of four members to the President. Currently, the only remaining member of the Tax Appeal Tribunal is Ismail Sajid. The Committee decided not to dismiss him with the belief that he had acted with good intentions in bringing the matter to their attention.
