Customs seizes 3.48 kg of drugs smuggled into Maldives

Maldives Customs seized a total of 3.48 kg of drugs smuggled into the country by air and post this week.

Authorities confiscated 2.44 kg of cocaine from the luggage of a Brazilian woman upon her arrival in the Maldives on October 5. The estimated street value of this seizure is approximately MVR 6 million.

Additionally, Customs intercepted a package brought by post on October 7, which contained 1.04 grams of heroin valued at MVR 1,040,000.

Both the Brazilian woman and the 40 year old man who came to collect the package at the post office have been handed over to the police, Customs said.
