Election Commission (EC) has extended invitation to 15 countries to observe the presidential election scheduled for September 9.
Vice President of the EC Ismail Habeeb said on Saturday that the invitation was offered to countries in the Association of World Election Bodies (A-Web) and the Election Bodies of SAARC countries, FENBOSA.
He added that countries that have invited Maldives in the past to observe their elections were considered as well.
Some of the countries invited to observe the election include Georgia, the Philippines, Australia, Japan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
The invitation includes food, accommodation, and transportation for two individuals from each country.
In addition to preparing the task force for the election, EC is in the process recruiting officials. The commission said that they require 296 employees for the task force and an additional 6,000 employees to serve as EC officials.
