The Civil Society Symposium, bringing together organizations working to combat domestic violence has begun today.

The event is jointly organized by the Family Protection Agency (FPA) and UNICEF under the theme “Partnership for Change: Empowering Communities in Responding to Domestic Violence.”

According to the FPA, the symposium aims to identify challenges faced by civil society organizations in preventing domestic violence, address these issues, and foster sustainable partnerships with government institutions and agencies.

During the symposium, various state agencies and organizations will discuss avenues for collaboration, care for domestic violence survivors, adherence to standards, and compliance with relevant regulations.

Minister of Social and Family Development, Dr Aishath Shiham, attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest. She highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring swift recovery and a safe environment for survivors of domestic violence.

To achieve this goal, the government is making necessary amendments to strengthen the legal framework for preventing domestic violence, the minister said.

She also thanked the organizations providing social, economic, and financial assistance to survivors.

The symposium, which concludes tomorrow, will also include the signing of relevant memorandums of understanding (MoUs).
