Maldives Surfing Association (MSA) is set to hold this year's National Surf League in 5 regions.

The first competition of this year's "MTCC Dhivehi Surf League" will be held in collaboration with MSA and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment. The event is scheduled to begin from tomorrow and will continue until net week Monday in Gadhdhoo of Gaaf Dhaal Atoll.

In the past, the island has held a surfing competition called "Gadhdhoo Pro 2020". This year, MSA has decided to rename the competitions in Gadhdhoo "Kalhegalekoda, 2022". The name is inspired from the surf point of the island.

The schedule for the event are as follows:

- February 28-24: G. Dh. Gadhdhoo

- May 10 - 18: M. Muli

- July 5 - 9: R. Kinolhas

- October 4 - 8: K. Himmafushi

- November 25-18: K. Male

The national surf league will conclude with the "Rannamaari Challenge" to be held in Male' city in November.

While 37 surfers participated in the Men's Open Division of Kalhegalekoda 2022, 18 participants will compete in the junior division.

Three surfers participated in the women's open division which is hosted for the first time in the Gadhdhoo competitions this year.

Previously, women's division was arranged in the Gadhdhoo Pro Competition. However, the division was cancelled due to the athletes failure to participate. Although MSA has made regulations not to hold a women's division if at least four athletes do not participate, the Surfing Association has decided to carry on with three participants.

The three contestants competing in the women's division are Aminath Shaisha Rasheed, Aya Naseem, who won last year's Rannamaari Challenge, and Fathimath Rishtha Shuja. Rishtha had also competed in the Rannamaari Challenge. However, this is Shaisha's first time competing.

Three heats will be held in the women's open division and the athlete with the best three heats will be announced as the winner. A female athlete did not participate in the junior division.
