Police have today commenced investigations, with charges of forgery against Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, brother of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed.
Police said that the investigation is into the forging of documents, based on information that they have received.
While Fazeel did not qualify for a land plot under the Binveriya housing scheme, there was a land registry document created in which he is granted a land plot. Such registries have also been made in the names of a number of other individuals, it has been learned.
These documents which are being circulated on social media appear to be forged. The Housing Ministry, too, has confirmed that Fazeel did not receive land under the Binveriya scheme.
With the investigation being commenced, the Privatization and Corporatization Board has also suspended all members of HDC's board, including Fazul. The only member who remains in office is Chairman Ahmed Nasif who was only appointed on November 6. Fazeel, too, has been suspended from his post of Deputy Managing Director at MWSC.
