India appoints Munu Mahawar as the new High Commissioner to Maldives on Friday.

Previous ambassador to Maldives Sunjay Sudhir was appointed as High Commissioner in March, 2019. He has been appointed as the ambassador to United Arab Emirates as his term in office in Maldives ended.

In a special ceremony held in India's Presidential Palace, President of India Ram Nath Kovind awarded the Letter of Credence to Mahawar.

Mawahar had previously been the ambassador to Oman from India.

Relations between Maldives and India have been strengthened during the current administration. India has been providing Maldives with continuous support with its various projects, most notably assisting with Maldives' biggest developmental venture, the bridge connecting Male', Vilimale', Thilafushi, and Gulhifalhu.
