A Singaporean company has expressed interest in generating power in the Maldives through the use of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG).

Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim revealed in a post on social media X yesterday that a proposal has been received from Chi Energie in Singapore to set up an LNG-based power generation network in the Maldives.

Discussions on the proposal were held at a meeting at the ministry yesterday.

LNG power generation generates approximately 50 percent less carbondioxide emissions than through burning coal. Although LNG power generation is not a renewable energy platform, it is a low carbon emission process that is accepted as being less harmful than the use of fuel.
