Speaking at last night's Maldives Media Council's Journalism Awards, the President reiterated this administration's commitment towards independent journalism.
Along with freedom of expression comes an immense responsibility on the part of journalists, he said.
He also called on journalists to verify reports and to refrain from spreading misinformation, emphasizing the importance of presenting unbiased reporting.
The Vice President also noted the advancing technologies such as AI tools and urged journalists to work with honesty and accountability.
He expressed joy at seeing youth engaged in journalism and stated the importance of training more in educational institutions.
