629 housing units to be leased to HDC employees

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) says 629 housing units will be leased to its employees who meets the criteria.

Managing Director of HDC Suhail Ahmed told "Mihaaru" that construction of housing units for HDC employees under the Hiyaa Housing Project has already begun. Apartments will be issued to employees from these units.

Suhail said that although the project initiated by former President Abdulla Yameen's administration had been halted due to lack of funds, the project was resumed after obtaining finance.

"This project was already underway when we took over. But at the time, it was stopped due to lack of funds. Later, we managed finances and resumed work," Suhail said.

He said that special flats are being constructed for HDC employees in the same area as other state-owned companies in Hulhumale' Phase two. However, HDC's building is being constructed without government guarantees unlike other companies.

"We will disclose the details as soon as the information about the facility is made public," Suhail said.

In an internal memo sent to the employees, HDC said the conditions for the employees who can apply for the housing units have been included.

The conditions include: being a permanent Maldivian employee who have been working in the company for more than one year, an employee who has not been on a no-pay leave for more than one year, the employee must be willing to leave a flat received in a similar scheme. a period of three years must be passed if the employee has received a job warning letter or received a written job warning, the employee has not received flats from the company's 12 residence projects.

The units are of varying sizes built in three towers.

Standard units issued to employees include one-room units and four-room units. The smallest units have 525.28 square feet. The size of the largest units is 1,169 square feet. The properties are priced between MVR 1.04 million and MVR 2.3 million.

The one-room units leased under the Deluxe Suite category have a minimum of 864 square feet. The facilities also have four room units and the largest unit has a size of 1,670 square feet. The facilities are valued at MVR 2.1 million and include units worth MVR 3.9 million as well.

When releasing these housing units, the duration of service to the company and their living conditions will also be checked.
