Indian media reports that 12kg of hashish oil was found in their possession.
On receiving intelligence reports of the attempted smuggling, DRI strengthened security at India Tuticorin Port.
Reports state that two persons traveling there on a motorcycle had been intercepted, with 12 cans of hashish oil having been found on them when searched.
The street price of hashish oil stands at MVR 1.8 million per kilo. Based on this, the estimated street price of the seized drugs is MVR 21 million.
The arrested in this case are a 34 year old, a 33 year old, a 56 year old, and a 30 year old.
The 56 year old works as a crew member on a yacht. The 30 year old works for the Central Industrial Security Force, who is accused of having provided false clearance at security checkpoints to facilitate the smuggling of drugs to Maldives.
Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan said that they have officially requested authorities in India to provide information on this case, but are yet to receive a response.
