Maldives has expressed support for the United Nations General Assembly's resolution to request advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the obligations of Israel towards humanitarian access in Palestine via the United Nations and other international bodies and third States.

This resolution was presented by Norway, with Maldives co-sponsoring it along with other Member States.

The resolution has been adopted with 137 votes in favour.

"The Maldives believes that this is a crucial step forward to uphold the work and mission of the United Nations, humanitarian organizations and of third States to protect and preserve the humanitarian operations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory," a statement on the Foreign Ministry website reads.

The statement expressed appreciation for the support received for the resolution and emphasized the commitment towards realizing a sovereign and independent Palestinian State based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
