The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded projects worth over MVR 266 million to be implemented in four islands. The projects comprise land reclamation initiatives in Noonu atoll Maafaru and Faafu atoll Bileddhoo, as well as harbour upgrading projects in Raa atoll Meedhoo and Lhaviyani atoll Hinnavaru.
The agreements to award these projects were officially signed at a ceremony held in the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on Thursday, August 3. Director General of the planning ministry, Shaanaa Farooq, signed the agreement on behalf of the ministry, while CEO of MTCC, Adam Azim signed the agreement on behalf of the company.
The project to reclaim 20 hectares of land in Noonu Atoll Maafaru has been awarded with a budget of MVR 91,457,791, to be completed within 300 days.
The project to reclaim 9.28 hectares of land in Faafu Atoll Bileddhoo, along with shore protection work for the island, is scheduled to be completed within 500 days. The total budget allocated for this project is MVR 100 million.
The Raa Atoll Meedhoo harbour upgrading project including the construction of a 100-foot T jetty adjacent to the Meedhoo harbour, shore protection work, installation of harbour lights, an expansion of the harbour by an additional 300 feet, and the construction of a seawall with boulder revetments extending to 20 meters. The project has been awarded with a budget of MVR 48,399,453, to be completed within 450 days.
According to the ministry, the project in Lhaviyani atoll Hinnavaru comprise of the construction of two concrete jetties, each spanning 270 meters, as well as a 244 meter seawall, including reprofiling work on an extra 51 meters of the seawall. The project is to be completed in 270 days, with a budget of MVR 26,272,739 allocated for the project.
