The shipment was seized on October 14. Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan also posted on social media platform X that night stating that the shipment brought in as vape flavours contained cannabis. He shared photos of vape cartridges, announcing it had been seized by Customs.

In a message shared with media today, Police said that the products in the shipment were tested for drugs at the Police laboratory. The results indicate that they do not contain any form of illicit drugs.
At the time, Ihusan said that vape flavours containing cannabis were being sold to school children, citing this as one of the main reasons why President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had decided to set in place a ban on vapes.
From November 15 onwards, import of vapes and related products are banned in the Maldives. Effective December 15, use, distribution and sale of such products will also be banned.
