Local media Mihaaru signed with telecom giant Ooredoo Maldives and largest insurance provider in Maldives Allied Insurance, as the main sponsors of 'Mihaaru Awards', on Tuesday.
The agreements were signed between main sponsors and associate partners, media partner and advertising partner on Tuesday morning, during a special ceremony held to launch the sports awards at Champa Central Hotel.
On behalf of Ooredoo, the agreement was signed by the Director of Sales and Brand, Digital and PR Arshad Shakir while the Manager of Sales Mohamed Shirneel represented Allied Insurance.
In addition, the major local media company and previous year's media partner, ‘VMedia’ signed as the media partner of the sports awards.
The advertising partner for the year's sports award is Think Associates, with the trophies and related advertising materials being manufactured by Think Advertising. The agreement was signed on behalf of Think by CEO Adheel Ismail.
Rainbow Enterprises, B.H.M Traders, Veligaa Hardware, Sonee Sports, Total Fitness Group (TFG) and Print Lab Creative signed as associate sponsors to the awards.
The large vendor of sporting goods and contributor to the sporting industry, Sonee Sports had their Assistant Marketing Manager Mohamed Shahleen sign on behalf of the company, while B.H.M Marketing Manager, Ibrahim Shareef and Print Lab's Managing Director Madeeh Jamal had signed for their respective companies.
TFG's General Manager Lamsa Hassan, signed for the company and stated that special arrangements will be made for the awards ceremony. Moreover, Rainbow's General Manager, Abdulla Aslam and Veligaa Hardware's Marketing Manager Irufau Abdulla signed on the sponsorship agreement.
An official at Mihaaru stated that it would be impossible to acknowledge and value the sportings stars of the industry without the support of these partners.
"On behalf of the Maldives sports family, we thank everyone and recognize the support you have given us. This is a service to the family by us and our partners," said the official.
The sponsors stated that Mihaaru awards are an important event in developing sports and athletes, adding that the main reason for their participation is to provide a service to the youth and sport.
Previous recipients of the awards thanked the sponsors for sustaining the awards and noted that the awards stand to motivate and recognize the efforts and achievements of the athletes.
Team categories include Football, Volleyball, and individual categories consist of Athletics, Table Tennis, Swimming and Badminton.
This is the first time the sports awards have incorporated individual sports, apart from the team categories.
A total of 24 awards will be given out during the event.
Football: Top 3 - Male, best youth athlete and the golden boot.
Volleyball: Top 3 - Male and Female and best youth athlete - Male and female.
The top 3 - Male and Female from the combined categories of Badminton, Athletics, Table Tennis and Swimming.
Coach and Referee awards recipients will be selected amongst all categories combined.
The most prestigious award, however, is the lifetime achievement award 'Zahir Naseer Award'. This award is named after late Mohamed Zahir Naseer, dubbed as the father of Maldivian sports.
