Playing on home soil, Bangladesh secured a 1-0 victory over Bhutan, starting their SAFF Championship Group A campaign with a hard-fought win.

The only goal of the match, played at the National Football Stadium in Dhaka, was scored for Bangladesh by Mohamed Ibrahim.

In the first half, Bangladesh controlled the game and created good scoring opportunities through Bishwanath Ghosh and Shamit Shome. However, with Bhutan's defensive setup and goalkeeper Gelchen Zangpo's excellent saves, the first half ended goalless.

Bangladesh scored in the 68th minute. Substitute Mohamed Ibrahim got his opportunity to score through his fast-paced play and involvement after coming onto the pitch. Throughout the match, Bangladesh attempted to create attacks by crossing the ball into Bhutan's penalty area.

As Bhutan's defenders failed to clear a crossed ball, letting it bounce around inside the area, Mohamed Ibrahim quickened his movement and sent the ball into the back of the net.

Towards the end of the match, Bhutan attempted to equalize through counter-attacks. However, Bangladesh held firm defensively to secure all three points.

With the victory, Bangladesh sits at the top of Group A. Their next match will be against Sri Lanka, which will be played next Wednesday. Prior to that, Sri Lanka will play against Bhutan next Sunday.
