The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has given full membership to HA. Dhidhdhoo Sports Club and Gadhdhoo Recreation Club, two teams that are competing in the Dhivehi Premier League (DPL).

FAM took a vote during last night's Extraordinary Congress at Meeruma Hotel, with Gadhdhoo and Dhidhdhoo being given FAM's membership unanimously by the member clubs.

This is the first time clubs have started at atoll tournaments, got promoted to the DPL and received FAM membership status.

There were island teams that had previously started at the atoll tournament level and then competed at the DPL. However, none of those teams got the opportunity to get their word in or vote at FAM's congress.

With Gadhdhoo and Dhidhdhoo receiving membership status, the teams instantly got the right to vote during congress and participate in elections.

According to FAM's basic regulations, the choice of suspending or removing teams is reserved by congress. The decision to offer membership status, after the Executive Committee (ExCo) deems certain requirements are met, can only be submitted to congress.

However, member clubs must absolutely abide by FAM's, FIFA's, AFC's and SAFF's guidelines. They can also suspend the voting rights of clubs that do not participate in FAM's activities two seasons in a row.
