The 2026 FAM Awards, after a 7-year hiatus, will be held on Thursday night, said the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).

The FAM Awards was introduced by FAM in 2004, with the latest ceremony being held in 2018. FAM decided to hold the ceremony last year, when FAM President Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) was elected to the position.

This year's awards will feature both football and futsal, while only football had been the focus for previous ceremonies.

This year's awards will include Best Male Football Player, Best Female Football Player, Best Foreign Player, Best Futsal Player, Best Club, Best Regional Club and Most Popular Player.

FAM said the aim of the award ceremony is to raise the quality of Maldivian football and futsal, and to renew competitiveness and courage amongst players.

"Additionally, recognizing and highlighting the efforts of those who are active in the sports industry is an important step toward the growth of Maldivian sports."

The Maldives Sports Awards held by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness in recent years saw the Best Male Football Player award as well, with the Best Female Football Player award being presented in the same year the male award was introduced. However, no one was chosen for both awards over the last two years.
