Police have begun investigating Maziya Assistant Coach Ahmed Suzair's (Kokko) assault on New Radiant Assistant Coach Luciano Barbosa.

During the altercation that occurred on Friday night after the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League (DPL) match between New Radiant and Maziya, with New Radiant winning 3-2, Suzair's attack on Barbosa resulted in a serious injury that left him bleeding from his mouth. There is a video of the assault spreading on social media.

Police said they are investigating the matter but they have not arrested anyone yet. Sources state that New Radiant filed this issue to the police.

New Radiant's statement after the match calls for strict action against Suzair and for adequate disciplinary action.

"Such an attack directly violates the integrity, security and basic standards of the sport," reads the statement.

A dispute between two players during the second half of the match turned violent when the situation escalated after players from both teams and officials attempted to stop the two players.

The referee issued a red card to Suzair, Maziya's Hassan Shifaz (Dunga) and New Radiant's Ibrahim Maisaan.
