Biss Buru Sports had to wear the Maldives national team’s training kit in their Dhivehi Premier League match against Eagles on Saturday after the two teams arrived with conflicting kit colours.
Eagles wore orange shirts with black shorts and socks in the match at the National Stadium, while league newcomers Biss Buru had planned to wear yellow shirts and shorts with white socks.
The two teams’ kits were deemed to be too similar, with Eagles given priority to choose their kit as Team A under the league’s regulations.
Eagles have traditionally used black as their first-choice kit, with orange as their second kit. However, they chose orange for their opening match of the new season.
Biss Buru’s first-choice colour is black, but the team reportedly brought only its yellow kit to the stadium.
As Biss Buru did not have another kit available, FAM officials provided the players with blue shirts from the Maldives national team’s training kit for the match.
Eagles went on to win 3-1.
Egyptian forward Amir Shoaib Al Sodiq Mohamed opened the scoring for Eagles in the 16th minute before Zain Zafar doubled their lead.
Nigerian defender Aliu Owolabi Fatai scored Biss Buru’s first goal in the Maldives’ top flight.
Experienced forward Ismail Easa (Messi) extended Eagles’ two-goal advantage in the 80th minute.
