Munsif, Eeshal to raise flag at Asian Games

The Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) has given table tennis player Moosa Munsif Ahmed and shooter Mariyam Eeshal Misbah the honor of raising the Maldivian flag at the opening ceremony of the Asian Games being held in Japan on 19th September.

The Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) has given table tennis player Moosa Munsif Ahmed and shooter Mariyam Eeshal Misbah the honor of raising the Maldivian flag at the opening ceremony of the Asian Games being held in Japan on 19th September.

Asia's most prolific sporting event will be held at Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, Japan from 19th September to 4th October. Maldives will have an 81-member contingent to compete in seven sport events during the Asian Games. They are athletics, badminton, beach volleyball, shooting, surfing, swimming and table tennis. The Chef de Mission for the Maldives Contingent is Chairman of the Maldives Pool Billiard Association Ahmed Nasif.

Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu and MOC President Mohamed Abdul Sattar (Champi) presented the Maldivian flag to Munsif and Eeshal at a special ceremony that was held yesterday. Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Ishigami Rumiko attended the ceremony as well.

Munsif is the best male table tennis player in Maldives currently. Along with being the national champion, he was also named the Best Athlete in the Maldives Sports Awards. He has also played in various international tournaments in the last 10 years.

Eeshal has won silver in the Junior Women's category of the Asian Pistol and Rifle Cup 2025 held in Thailand. She is the first Maldivian shooter to have achieved such an accomplishment for the country at an Asian standard.
