In the final match of Group K in the Development Phase of the AFC U-20 Asian Cup Qualifiers, host nation Myanmar defeated the Maldives 6-0 to secure the top spot in the group.

The matches for the group, which included Sri Lanka and Brunei alongside the Maldives and Myanmar, were held in Myanmar.

Even heading into the match played this afternoon, both the Maldives and Myanmar had already secured their positions among the top two teams in the group and earned promotion to the next stage of qualification, the Qualification Phase.

The Development Phase consists of lower-ranked Asian nations.

The Qualification Phase matches that the Maldives will next have to compete in are designated for the 2029 AFC U-20 Asian Cup Qualifiers. Those matches are scheduled to be played during 2028.

The top and second-placed teams from the groups in the ongoing Qualification Phase for this year will qualify for next year's U-20 Asian Cup in China.

Myanmar secured the top spot in Group K of the Development Phase by winning all three matches played, accumulating nine points. The team scored 15 goals while conceding none.

Myanmar started the match at home very dangerously. In the 10th minute of the match, Thaw Zin Ko took the lead for Myanmar from an opportunity set up by Sai Zom Shang.

Maldives goalkeeper Zahran Ziyad defended against numerous attacks from Myanmar. However, in the 21st minute, Thura Min Thant expanded Myanmar's lead by sending a low strike into the bottom corner of the goal.

Not long after the start of the second half, in the 53rd minute of the match, Thura Min Thant scored his second goal. Four minutes later, an own goal by the Maldives' Mohamed Ilan Imran changed the scoreline to 4-0.

Myanmar finished the match by scoring two additional goals: a goal by Kaung Khant Kyaw in the 71st minute and a goal put in by Su Whan Za Ni in the 86th minute.

In the other match played in this group, Sri Lanka defeated Brunei 2-0 to earn their first points of the tournament.

Following a competitive first half, Sri Lanka took the lead within a minute of the second half's start. After a strike by Delpa Chithra slipped past Brunei's goalkeeper Mohamed Safwan, Haleelullah Kasim netted the resulting rebound into the goal.

Sri Lanka confirmed their victory in the 67th minute. After striking the side post twice and coming back into play, the ball was sent into the net from inside the area by Mohamed Maleek.

The Maldives secured second place in the group by achieving victories over Sri Lanka and Brunei.
