The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has announced that arrangements have been made for Maldives' national football team to play two friendly games during the upcoming FIFA international window.

Maldives' national football team will travel to Kyrgyzstan's capital Bishkek to play the matches.

Maldives will be playing against Kyrgyzstan on 28th September and then against Lebanon on 1st October.

These are important matches that will be played to assess the quality of the national team in preparation for the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers in November. The two matches Maldives will play against the two teams ahead of them in the FIFA ranking is an opportunity to test the quality of the Maldivian team.

The SAFF Championship will be held in Bangladesh. Maldives will be playing in Group B against India and Pakistan.

This is the first set of matches Maldives coach István Urbányi will be playing outside of the country. This is the third time he has come on as the coach for the national team.

Maldives has already played against Kyrgyzstan four times. The last time the two teams clashed was in 2014 during the AFC Challenge Cup that was held in Maldives. Maldives won the match 2-0.

Maldives has played against Lebanon five times. The last time the two teams played against each other was in 2023 during the SAFF Championship group stage held in India. Lebanon won the match 1-0.

In addition to Lebanon, Kuwait also received an invitation to play in the 2023 SAFF Championship.

Before this, Maldives played friendly games against Sri Lanka in November 2025. The two matches were played in a competition style known as the South Asian Super Cup, organized by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka. Due to a lack of teams, Sri Lanka decided to play two matches against Maldives and to award the cup to the winning score via an aggregate from both matches.

The matches were played under current coach of Victory Mohamed Shiyaz (Mohan), with Maldives winning on aggregate and claiming the cup.
