Dr. Hussain Haleem (Kuda Hussain), a former Maldivian marathon record holder and renowned coach, has published three books written in English.
The books he published include the first volume of a book written on the life of the Holy Prophet, as well as a book on Maldivian sports and an autobiography on his personal sports career.
Hussain, who serves as a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Sports Science and Coaching at the Sultan Idris Education University in Perak, Malaysia, arrived in the Maldives last week and presented these books to former presidents and prominent figures from various sectors.
In this regard, he presented books to former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, President Mohamed Nasheed, and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Among Hussain's three books, the one regarding the life of the Prophet was a work he began as a personal challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic. The book, a large portion of which was completed during the lockdown, contains around two thousand pages in total. Therefore, he intended to publish the book divided into four volumes.

The book written under the title "Rethinking Maldivian Sports" is a book that analyzes the issues facing Maldivian sports in light of his experiences as an athlete, a coach, and an administrator. Several Malaysian experts have also authored chapters in this book.
The third book is an autobiography written on his personal life under the title "(Un)defeated Maldivian Olympian." This book includes details on his expulsion from school, entering running thereafter, and how he became the Maldives' first Olympian. It also details how his life transformed as a result, along with the challenges faced and lessons learned during his higher education journey.
Those who wish to purchase these books can arrange it by sending a message to Hussain's social media page.
Hussain's primary responsibility at Sultan Idris University is teaching physical education, sports science, and sports sociology, as well as training and developing sports teachers and coaches. Additionally, it includes coaching the university's athletics team and training some runners at the Perak state level.
Hussain also ran a successful academy in Malé under the name "KH Sports Academy." There, he trained professional and recreational runners, as well as a special "Sports for All" program for children before they chose a specific sport.

Hussain is a runner who emerged from the training conducted by the Olympic Committee, led by the late Mohamed Zahir Naseer, to train runners to represent the Maldives at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. With the training of a Japanese coach who arrived in the Maldives at the time, Hussain ran in the 1988 Olympics and achieved the honor of becoming the Maldives' first Olympian.
Thereafter, at the SAF Games held in Pakistan in 1989, he completed the marathon in 2 hours, 45 minutes, and 03 seconds, setting a national record. That record was broken 28 years later. Following his running career, Hussain also served as the coach of the national athletics team and as the fitness coach for New Radiant Sports Club.
Afterward, he attained a PhD in sports on an Olympic scholarship in New Zealand. Although he had the opportunity to acquire New Zealand citizenship upon completing the course if he wished, he passed up that opportunity and returned to the Maldives out of a desire to serve his nation. He subsequently worked in the military, and also served as the Vice President of the Olympic Committee and as a member of the Sports Council.
