Two members of the Lagoons Sports Club have accused the Commissioner of Sports Mohamed Tholal of not abiding by a court order regarding a club election.

The two members, Abdul Waheed and Ahmed Ali, filed a Civil Court case and a High Court case regarding the club's election. As per the case filed to the National Sports Council by the two members in reference to the sentences from the courts, Commissioner of Sports Mohamed Tholal did not abide by the sentences from the Civil Court and the High Court.

Waheed and Ali accuse Tholal of disrespecting the court in said case.

As per the letter sent by the two individuals to the Sports Council , the Executive Committee's term came to an end on 11th March 2026, with the Civil Court having ruled that the dismissal of members via an election held on a Viber group is void. The court ordered a new election be held under the supervision of the Commissioner. The letter also reads that the court ordered a new election be held based on the legitimate registry that includes 227 members.

When the club's former Executive Committee took to High Court to void the sentence, the High Court ruled on 12th August 2026 that the club does not currently have a legally legitimate Executive Committee, the letter states.

Waheed and Ali's letter further states that while the courts have ruled as such, the committee took it upon themselves to prepare a members list and held an election on the Lagoons stadium last Wednesday night, without any involvement from the Commissioner of Sports.

The commissioner endorsed the election results against the initial Civil Court and High Court rulings and the Civil Court's latest interim order, and that the club's register had been updated by the commissioner, the letter reads.

"This act on part of the Commissioner of Sports disrupts the enforcement of the court's sentence, and as it is an act that disrespects the court, we request an investigation into this case so that legal action may be taken against the Commissioner of Sports," states the letter.

Regarding the matter, Commissioner of Sports Tholal told Mihaaru News that he does not want to make any statements without ticking all of the legal boxes.
