Maziya secured a 2-1 victory over Buru Sports in their second match of the Cup Winners' Cup.
Maziya has won all the matches played in the new season. This includes defeating New Radiant on penalties in the Charity Shield, as well as beating Odi Sports in their first match of the Cup Winners' Cup.
Maziya's remaining match in the Cup Winners' Cup is against New Radiant. That match will take place on August 15.
Prior to that, Maziya faces Tajikistan's Regar-TadAZ in the AFC Challenge League qualifiers. That match at the National Football Stadium will take place next Tuesday.
In the encounter between Maziya and Buru at the stadium this afternoon, Buru took the lead before the end of the first half. The goal was scored by Abdulla Areen Ibrahim in injury time of that half.
He scored an impressive goal. Outside Maziya's penalty area from the side, after retrieving the ball past their defender Nikola Vujicic and advancing near the area, Areen passed the ball to Ali Hamdhan, who was inside the box. Hamdhan passed the ball back to Areen. He sent the shot into the top far corner of the goal.
Even though Maziya's goalkeeper Hussain Shareef attempted to make a save, he could not get his hands to the ball.
In the first minute after the second half began, Maziya got a good chance to score. A low cross sent across the face of the goal by their Nigerian forward Benjamin Kuku went just wide of the post. Standing closest within striking distance of the ball was Maziya's Anoof Abdulla. However, as the ball reached him, he failed to make contact with his foot, and the ball crossed past the front of the goal and went out.
However, in the very next minute, Ibrahim Aisam (Toni) scored to equalize for Maziya. After an attack created by Maziya inside Buru's area was headed away by a Buru defender, the ball rebounded. The ball then fell to Naiz Hassan Ibrahim Nasir, who was inside the box.
He nudged the ball backward to set up the opportunity for Aisam. Aisam struck it on the volley, sending the ball into the top corner of the goal.
In the 52nd minute of the match, Maziya turned the score around. That goal was scored for the team by Kuku. Maziya's defender Nemanja Zdravkovic, after working hard to gain control of the ball inside Buru's area, delivered a short pass to Kuku. He easily sent the ball into the open net.
