The Cup Winners' Cup, which was put on hiatus by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), will be held once more tomorrow after a hiatus of 18 years.

New Radiant and Buru Sports Club will be playing against each other tomorrow evening in the first match of the cup.

The Cup Winners' Cup was initially introduced in 1995 as an opening tournament for the football season. The last time the cup was held was in 2008.

The tournament was always held by inviting the champion team of the previous season, with invitations to be given this time as well to the champion team of three tournaments along with the league's second place holders. Along with FA Cup champion New Radiant and the league's fourth place holders Buru Sports Club, the other teams that will be competing are Dhiraagu Dhivehi League champion Maziya and President's Cup champion Odi Sports Club.

Buru got the chance to play as they were the team with the best results after the league's second place holder Odi and third place holder New Radiant claimed the champion title from the other two tournaments.

The cup will take place with the four teams playing in a one-round league format, with the two teams with the most points moving to the final. The final match will be held on 18th August at night.

The Charity Shield match that was played on Friday night has officially kicked off the football season. Maziya beat New Radiant 5-3 with penalties and won the shield. The league is set to begin on 10th September, which is after Maziya's match in the AFC Challenge League and the AFC U-20 qualifiers.
